The Martin Tigers remain the only Laredo high school team alive in the UIL soccer playoffs. The guys were back on the practice field this afternoon following another emotional playoff victory that came down to penalty kicks. For the 2nd time in three playoff games the Tigers played to a draw through regulation and two overtimes before nailing down victories, this time 5-3 over Rockport-Fullerton.
Martin hopes these close games has prepared them for the tough challenges still ahead. "Now we're ready for whatever happens. If we need to go to the penalty kicks again, then we're ready to do that again." (David Martinez, Tigers Co-captain)
"These kids are competitors. Anytime you take a game to penalty kicks it's a dramatic emotional win. Fortunately we've been able to pull two PK wins off. These kids are ready to compete and go against anyone in the state." (Armando Gomez, Martin Head Coach)
Martin and PSJA Southwest will go head-to-head tomorrow at seven pm at Alice High School, with the winner moving on to the Region IV semi-finals.
