UISD head swim coach Paul Kane had high expectations going into the season, hoping to take multiple swimmers to the state meet. His team lived up to that standard. Three UISD swimmers qualified for the state meet on an individual level, with the Alexander girls 400 yard Freestyle relay team making the cut as well.
One of the biggest winners at regionals was Alexander freshman Ayeesha Mohammed, who won three different events and was named the "Female Swimmer of the Region." Also moving on individually is Martin Martinez, who will swim in the 200 IM and the 100 Fly. Plus Sammy Babiak will swim in the 200 Freestyle and the 100 Breaststroke.
The swimmers are excited to have some fun in Austin and are looking to find success in the pool as well.
"I'm hoping to re-break the records I set this year and move up in the rankings." (Martin Martinez)
"I've worked really hard throughout the season and I've really enjoyed swimming fast and working hard. I hope for the best at state this year." (Ayeesha Mohammed)
"I'm hoping to re-break the records that we've set and to hopefully drop a lot more time." (Samantha Babiak)
Kassie Hsu and Sarah Hachar are the other two racers in the relay. The state finals will be in Austin on February 22nd and 23rd.
