Fans of the roundball will have an opportunity to see a brand new league start up with eyes on developing talent for the NBA and overseas. The American Basketball League is comprised of 12 teams, six in Florida and six in Texas. They are looking for strong basketball players not only on the court but off it as well, who are interested in continuing their professional careers at the next level.
The ABL's CEO says when it came time to choose the Texas cities, Laredo seemed like a no-brainer. "It is a couple hours from San Antonio, a couple hours from Corpus Christi, it's within driving distance of College Station. It fits our business model of keeping the league regionally scheduled. This is going to be a gold mine I think and with our ticket prices being so affordable, we think we can fill the gym up."
The league is scheduled to begin play in Januaray, with the South Texas Revolution hosting the Twin City United on Sunday the 20th at TAMIU. Tickets are expected to be five dollars.
